Bathroom Renovations Bentleigh East
Much of Bentleigh East was built in the 1950s and 60s, and a surprising number of those brick veneer homes still have their original bathrooms: pastel wall tiles, a cast iron bath and sixty-year-old plumbing. Peter Conlan Bathrooms specialises in exactly this renovation, taking a bathroom that has served its time and rebuilding it properly from the slab up.
Renovating post-war bathrooms in Bentleigh East
A first full renovation of an original bathroom is more than cosmetic. Old galvanised pipework, perished seals and decades-old wiring all need attention, and homes of this era can contain asbestos sheeting, which must be identified and removed by licensed specialists before any other work begins. As a licensed plumber and licensed builder, Peter manages the whole process so it is done once and done safely.
The reward is substantial. Modern waterproofing, full-height tiling, a layout that actually suits how your household works, and fixtures with decades of service ahead of them. With townhouse development changing the streetscape, a properly renovated bathroom also protects the value of an original family home.
Why Peter Conlan Bathrooms
Peter Conlan is a true bathroom expert: a licensed plumber (No. 36230) and licensed builder (VBA DB-L 69674) with more than 30 years in the trade and a portfolio of over 650 bespoke bathrooms across Melbourne’s Bayside.
The service is personal from start to finish. When you call, you speak to Peter, not a salesperson. Peter comes to your door to measure and quote, and during the build he is on site himself, working alongside and overseeing his small team of skilled Bayside tradespeople. Custom vanities are crafted by our own master cabinet maker, so storage is built for your bathroom rather than bought off the shelf.
Quotes are free and without obligation, and can be arranged on weekends to suit your household.
Frequently asked questions
Our bathroom is original 1960s. What does a full renovation involve?
A complete strip-out back to the frame and slab, new plumbing and electrical work, modern waterproofing, tiling, and a new suite of fixtures and fittings. It is a rebuild of the room, not a facelift, and it comes with certification for the work done.
What about asbestos?
Homes built before the late 1980s can contain asbestos sheeting behind tiles or in walls. If it is suspected, testing is arranged and any removal is carried out by licensed asbestos removalists before renovation work proceeds. It is a manageable and well-regulated process.
Should we keep the bath or switch to a walk-in shower?
It depends on your household and your plans for the home. Walk-in showers suit most adults, but if you may sell to a young family, keeping at least one bath in the house is generally wise. Peter will talk through the options when he visits to quote.
How disruptive is the work?
We contain the work area, protect floors through the house and remove waste as we go. You receive a schedule up front, so you know which trades are in the house on which days and when the room will be back in service.
